Orchard Meadows

We established our first orchard meadow at Landhaus KitzLein in 2014. We had about 4,000 square meters available here. The prospect of one day being able to harvest table fruit on a larger scale ourselves is very tempting. However, we know that due to our altitude and climate, we don’t have the best conditions. Still, it’s worth a try.

Orchard meadows with standard trees are habitats for up to 5,000 insect species. Many bird species need these standard trees as their habitat. Orchard meadows are hard to beat in terms of biodiversity in this region. Furthermore, there are so many old heritage varieties that are endangered. That’s why 20 fruit trees from the Slow Food Ark, such as the Stuttgart Gaishirtle and the Champagne Roasting Pear, are included.
Time will tell what grows.
